Project s android smartphone

As the sales numbers for the new iPhones (the 5s and 5c) and the release of the Google Nexus 5 have been dominating the mobile news cycle, an interesting Indiegogo campaign was quietly launched. On 12 November 2013, BungBungame launched its campaign to fund the development and production of its Project S Android powered smartphone.1 Before we get into the phone itself, lets take a look at the company behind the device.

BungBungame project S

BungBungame launched in 2008, as a mobile app development company.2 The Taiwanese company has had a great deal of success in this pursuit winning, “Third prize in Microsoft Taiwan Windows Mobile Apps Development Contest in 2009, Best Tool Gold Award in 2010, and Million-Dollar Award in Microsoft Top 100 APP Ranking Competition in 2012.”3 Also in 2012, the company released what would be, to-date, the first of three tablets (image below). This combination of mobile development and hardware expertise has us excited about the potential of Project S.

Before we get into Project S, it should be pointed out that the phone will only launch if the $5M goal is met, with a delivery date estimated for around November 2014. That said, the features of the Project S look amazing:

  • 5.8 inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (higher than my laptop)
  • Miracast, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, DLNA.
  • Wireless Charging
  • 32GB internal storage and a microSD slot
  • A crazy powerful octa-core processor, optimized for extended battery life with ARM big.LITTLE processing.
  • 16MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera
  • On top of all that, the Project S is both waterproof and dustproof.
  • All Proect S phones will be unlocked and will run on any 3G/4G LTE networks.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Project S is its $299 price. Although the future of Project S is uncertain, we are quite excited to follow the campaign. Here is a quick video showing all of the specs of Project S:
