As the 2014 International CES winds down all eyes are looking at February 20th when all of the tech and mobile press in the world will converge on Barcelona for Mobile World Congress.

With the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress so close to CES many of the high profile wireless device manufacturers like Samsung, LG and HTC, wait until next month for their big annual announcements.

One thing is for certain this year, we will see a refresh of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S, in the Galaxy S 5. A forthcoming press invite is expected, inviting us to undoubtedly see Samsung Mobile Chief, JK Shin, unveil the Galaxy S 5.

Last night at a CES dinner a few friends and former Samsung employees were contemplating what could be in store for the next Galaxy S.

For starters we are at least 2 generations deep on NFC technology in Samsung devices. So while the iWorld waits for NFC it’s nothing new for the South Korean company.

What we may see is the next generation of Exynos processors on a world wide scale, that would be exciting. The newest Exynos processors are built on Samsung’s 64 bit architecture, also found in the iPhone 5s.

A new report from CNN says we can expect the next generation of Galaxy S to also include a Galaxy Gear refresh.

“We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” Lee Young Hee told CNN. “When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”

Many reporters and analysts expect Samsung to one-up Apple’s finger print scanning technology, Touch iD. However Lee wouldn’t confirm that Samsung is working on iris scanning technology.

“Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology,” Lee said. “We are studying the possibility but can’t really say whether we will have it or not on the S5.”

Lee went on to tell CNN that the focus for the Galaxy S5 will be getting back to basics and again building on the display and the cover.
