Alpine Electronics announced on Monday a new 7″ head unit with Apple’s new Car Play infotainment system.

The new iLX-007 system syncs with any iPhone 5 or better with a lightning connector. From there the head unit becomes the control system and allows the user to easily play media and control it via in dash controls.  We already know that in dash infotainment systems put controls at a safer distance to the driver.

CarPlay makes it easier to access media, online media services and cloud based systems like Spotify. Pandora is conspicuously absent from CarPlay.

The iLX-007 allows the driver to use voice control features through Apple’s virtual assistant Siri. By using familiar Siri commands users can choose songs, fast forward, elect to shuffle and call up CarPlay compatible apps.

Alpine started shipping the iLX-007 on Monday to their retail partners.
