State owned China mobile has over 750 million subscribers. That’s a lot of people using wireless phones on one carrier. A lot of people, that until now, couldn’t use an iPhone.
Needless to say China Mobile has been a huge target for Cupertino based Apple. Apple devices are extremely popular in China (as they are around the world) but without the ability to be on China’s largest carrier Apple was at a huge loss. In the rise of the smartphone wars, Samsung developed a huge and loyal following as the smartphone to get when you couldn’t get an iPhone.
Well Apple announced on Sunday that they’ve finally reached an agreement with China Mobile. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
However, Apple announced that the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s will be available to China Mobile customers beginning January 17th. They would be available to preorder starting Christmas Day (December 25th). While we’re sure that Apple had hoped to be in the hands of China Mobile customers before the holiday season, they surely will attract a lot of customers come mid January.
“China is an extremely important market for Apple and our partnership with China Mobile presents us the opportunity to bring iPhone to the customers of the world’s largest network,” Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said in a statement.
