In an exhaustive release, ARCHOS – one of the longest standing MP3 player and other portable media (namely tablet) manufacturer – announced that they will unveil a wide range of products at CES,1 Among the various descriptions and info, there is a significant announcement that seems to be almost hidden away:
ARCHOS will also be unveiling a selection of smartwatches starting at under £50. ARCHOS smartwatches embrace simplicity and function, feature a pebble-like design and will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices.2
That was the only mention of the smartwatch line in the release. That said, the bulk of the release focused on their “Connected Home” – think along the lines of smart home – and “Connected Self” – the quantified self, with products like ARCHOS Activity Tracker and Blood Pressure Monitor – lines of products.3 With the companies major shift into the connected self, it stands to reason that this smartwatch offering may include some sort of health features and/or some sort of connected home aspects. This is purely speculation on my part.
There is a ARCHOS Smartwatch page on their website, but it is little more than a teaser. ARCHOS will be at Central Hall Booth 9844 at CES.
