BlackBerry has really been making a feature push – and device push to a lesser extent – over the past couple of weeks. While it is clear that the company is struggling to maintain its incredibly small 0.6% market share, they are improving their bread and butter: BlackBerry Messenger (BBM). While the new support for stickers is hardly revolutionary, the move to Windows Phone and the new Nokia X is. According to John Sims, the President of Global Enterprise Solutions at BlackBerry:

BBM continues to grow in popularity as millions of people use our mobile platform for chatting and connecting with friends or colleagues, and we are very excited that we will soon welcome Windows Phone and Nokia X users to the BBM community.1

BBMOn the heels of these announcements, it appears that the company is set to add even more features to BBM. According to a release dated 28 February 2014:

The next release of BBM will support photo sharing in multi person chats. This comes as an addition to existing sharing options that exist in multi person chats – sending voice notes, sharing your location powered by Glympse, and sending files from your Dropbox account. We also understand that customers want to be able to send larger files through BBM. While our file size limit on shared files has historically been set at 6MB, we’re increasing this to 16MB in the next release of BBM.2

It will be interesting to follow BlackBerry and BBM as we get closer to the release date of the new BlackBerry Q20.
