Beats has prepared a mini movie that’s leading into an advertising campaign to run during the World Cup. Like many of Beats advertising and short films, the ad is interspersed with celebrities from music and sports.
Omar Johnson is still heading up the Beats marketing department and there’s no reason to believe that Apple won’t keep him aboard, so this short film is in the same hard hitting, yet authentic style, as the video featuring NBA star Kevin Garnett, that was released back in November.
What is different is a blatant reference to Apple within the film itself.
The video starts off with soccer player Neymar Jr receiving a pep talk via Facetime on a gold iPhone 5s. The camera even focuses in on the Apple logo. This is the first time that a Beats production has ever honed in on the device the headphones were connected to.
The video features a wide range of football stars including Bacary Sagna, Bastian Schewinsteiger, Blaise Matuidi and Robin van Persie. It also features Nicki Minaj, Serena Williams, Thierry Henry and even LeBron James among others who are preparing to support their team in the upcoming World Cup.
When Neymar Jr is finally ready for the game he leaves behind his blue Beats headphones still connected to the gold iPhone 5s.
Adage.com is quick to point out that Lebron James is a Samsung spokesperson, Apple’s biggest competitor in the smartphone arena.
Although no official comment has been made it’s believed that, to a point, Beats hardware/headpone business will continue to function as a somewhat independent unit within Apple after the acquisition closes. To that end Johnson said that Lebron James is part of the Beats family and he would not turn down James’ appearance in future ads. “He’s going to be all over the place,” Johnson said at an event in New York showing off the video.
Adage.com also reported that unlike Apple’s recent WWDC keynote, no mention of Apple was made at the Beats event.
Beats is not an official sponsor of the World Cup.
