As we are gearing up to hit the Alabama Educational Technology Conference (AETC) this week, we have had the opportunity to speak with several exhibitors. Among these exhibitor companies is Lightspeed Technologies. Lightspeed has created a line of audio solutions that help “overcome classroom noise and provide crystal clear sound to all your students regardless of where they may be seated or where the teacher may be standing.”We had a chance to ask Vanessa Savoie, a Lightspeed Team Member about the company.
Lightspeed Technologies
What is Lightspeed Technologies?
We create instructional solutions for better listening and sharing. Our easy-to-use audio systems deliver optimum speech intelligibility, overcome classroom noise and provide crystal clear sound to all your students regardless of where they may be seated or where the teacher may be standing. Teachers report reduced vocal fatigue, improved classroom management, and increased academic performance without changing curriculum or teaching methods.
Tell us about your products.
Students with normal hearing ability benefit from the use of classroom amplification systems. Amplification systems allow teachers to control, stabilize, and equalize the classroom acoustical environment so their voices are clearly audible over background noise at all locations within the classroom. The results are positive effects for students in amplified classrooms, including improved academic achievement and speech perception, and increased on-task behavior.
Teacher benefits include reduced vocal strain and voice fatigue, and the ability to move more freely about the classroom. Schools using classroom amplification systems have reported significant decreases in teacher absences due to voice-related problems. School staff, students, and parents have responded positively to the use of amplification systems.
What makes Lightspeed Unique?
Lightspeed’s exciter technology is advanced, yet simple. And it delivers superior speech intelligibility to the classroom.
So how does it work? A series of exciters apply sound energy directly to the sound panel, “exciting” the voice signal. Since the energy from the exciters is transferred to the surface of the flat panel, every point across the panel radiates the sound, sending it evenly throughout the classroom. The result: an incredibly clear and intelligible way to distribute the teacher’s natural voice.
Why did you get involved in the education?
Established in 1990, Lightspeed Technologies, Inc. manufactured aviation headsets and later professional wireless microphones used in the entertainment industry. In 1994 Lightspeed introduced a line of high-quality classroom audio systems and made a total commitment to improve the learning environment for students. Lightspeed continues investing in research and development to provide the best technology and most reliable products in the industry.
