Of all the education initiatives that were on display at the #EdSpark venue during One Spark, Flip Our Class was one of our favorites. Flip Our Class was actually one of our favorite creators from whole One Spark festival.
Flip Our Class is a quasi-crowdfunding platform. The crowdfunding moniker may be a misleading though. Flip Our Class allows teachers to post their innovative ideas, new classroom projects, or something as simple as a request for a new projector. After these projects are posted, they are queued up for the closets voting cycle. During this voting cycle, the campaign functions very much like a crowdfunding campaign, but instead of soliciting money, the projects are soliciting votes. At the end of the cycle, Flip Our Class allows the projects receiving the most votes to receive funds.
In a way, Flip Our Class functions more like the One Spark Festival than, say, the more traditional crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. That is to say, Flip Our Class has a set amount of funds and resources available, and distributes these resources proportionally to the popular vote.
We had a chance to speak with Dewitt Robinson, the founder of Flip Our Class, during One Spark. Dewitt told us a little bit more about how he sees the platform working, and one of the successful projects:
Flip Our Class has been racking up the votes, and it was one of the largest vote receivers in the technology category after the first full day of voting at One Spark. To support the project, vote for Flip Our Class on their One Spark Creator Profile
