4K TV’s seem to be all the rage these days. With up to 4x as many pixels as traditional HD tvs, these new Ultra HD tvs have the most crystal clear picture that money can buy, and a lot of money at that.
Samsung, LG and Panasonic have all turned to Ultra-HD/4K televisions because the previous technology, OLED proved too costly. Right now though, for the average consumer, Ultra-HD may prove too costly as well. But heck if you have the money, go for it.
Samsung unveiled a 110 inch TV and made it available for purchase directly from South Korea for just $150,000. If you think you may need to be a celebrity or a Saudi Prince to buy one you’re correct. WLTX-TV reports that Samsung sold 10 of their last “premium” television set to people in the middle east. That TV, at 85″ was only $40,000.
No worries though, like all technology, the prices of Ultra-HD TVs are expected to drop, faster than those of it’s predecessor OLED. Research firm NPD suggests that global sales of Ultra-HD TVs will surge from 1.3 million this year to 23 million by 2017, with more than half of those shipments taken by Chinese companies.
Of course Ultra-HD TVs will be available in more more livable sizes in the coming months, which will help drive the price down. The real good news though, if you haven’t even upgraded to HD TV yet, now may be the time.
