If you enjoy checking into your favorite television programs and making your tv experience more social than you’re probably using GetGlue.
GetGlue is the social platform that allows users to check into their favorite tv shows and see what other people are watching it’s like having a gigantic tv watch party from the comfort of your couch, and in your pajamas. GetGlue was called one of the most promising new social platforms last year and it continues to innovate.
Back in November it was announced that Utah based GetGlue was acquired by i.TV a company that has pioneered the “second screen” tv experience. The company describes itself as the most downloadable tv guide app in the history of Apple’s iTunes app store. Major media companies including the Huffington Post, AOL, Entertainment Weekly and Nintendo have used i.TV as their second screen designer, reports LostRemote.com
As with any acquisition, the folks at i.TV announced that nothing would change as far as the foundation of the GetGlue service and that it would only get better.
One of the fun things GetGlue users loved was their GetGlue sticker program which sent physical stickers to GetGlue users reflecting what shows they have “checked into”. There was also a digital/virtual badge element of the sticker program that could be found in a users account in the GetGlue app. i.TV announced an end to the physical program back in December but promised to continue with the digital sticker program.
The change in the sticker program is all part of the next phase of GetGlue which i.TV promises to use to continue to make TV viewing more social and more fun. With these changes also came a name change to tvtag. Quite frankly, tvtag definitely works better as a name because it tells users exactly what the service is all about.
Get Glue posted this note on their blog:
Gluers!
Next week, there will be some major updates to GetGlue and we wanted you to be the first to know.
As many of you are aware, this update has been a long time coming. In fact, when GetGlue joined i.TV in November, one of the reasons we were all so excited about both companies coming together is that both teams shared a vision for how to make watching TV more fun and interesting. The update to GetGlue you’ll see next week is a culmination of a lot of hard work and your feedback. We can’t wait to share it with you!
Here’s what you’ll see:
GetGlue will now be known as tvtag
The app icon and brand colors will change from blue to red
In response to your feedback, we will incorporate a ton of new features we can’t wait for you to try out
Thanks for all your support. We look forward to watching TV with you for many years to come!
The GetGlue Team
P.S. And as a final reminder, will become next week. So heads up!
Except for the name change and the physical sticker program, everything else with GetGlue is the same. We’ve heard about some of the new features they will announce, possibly as soon as next week, and it does in fact look like i.TV is taking GetGlue(tagtv) and tv viewing in general to new heights.
