The internet is putting politics back into the hands of Americans. There are several startups out there that are helping US citizens get more politically active. There are even some startups out there that are doing exactly what Google’s newest service is doing, and that is, locate their representatives.
TheVerge reported on Tuesday that Google wants to help users get more politically active by helping them find their representative.
The web tool does exactly what it says it does in a polished looking interface, and easily. All a user needs to do is type in their zipcode and voila, instant access to all the information they need to know about who’s representing them.
Map Your Representative, returns the users local government officials, state government officials, Congressmen and Congresswomen, Senators all the way up to the President and Vice President.
While the web tool is helping American’s find their American government officials, it was actually a UK firm that built out the service. TheVerge reports that the UK firm of Bow & Arrow used Google’s Civic Information API to help build it. Map Your Representative was born out of a previous app that helped users find their polling places.
The UI returns the representative’s contact information, social media information and even their latest tweets.
