While Eric Schmidt was the CEO of Google, he made a few key appearances during the early rise of Android. He was on hand at the Motorola Droid and Droid X release on Verizon Wireless. He keynoted Mobile World Congress talking about Android and he was an overall cheerleader for Google’s mobile operating system.
Now, since Larry Page has been reinstalled as Google’s CEO, Schmidt has had more of an ambassador role as Executive Chairman.
Lately though, the billionaire tech mogul has noticed that more and more of his friends are switching to Android. With 80% of the smartphone market belonging to Android this is really no surprise. Many people have realized what even Steve Wozniak had said, Android gets the newest features first, even though, in most cases iOS makes them more polished.
With more an dmore friends turning to Android, Schmidt has taken to his Google+ page to release a guide for switching from iOS to Android. We’re not quite sure if this is written from firsthand experience. Schmidt along with Google’s Sergey Brin and Larry Page were at odds with Steve Jobs over the Android operating system. Jobs went as far as to say that Android creator Andy Rubin was “A Big Arrogant F*CK” So unless it was for research purposes it’s hard to believe that Schmidt would have used an iPhone for day to day usage. We’ve actually seen him with a Blackberry but never an iPhone.
At any rate, his “Eric’s Guide: Converting to Android From iPhone” covers several key area
- Setting up an Android Phone
- Updating your iPhone or iPad
- Importing contacts from iPhone to Android
- Setting up Gmail and email
- Message settings
- Migrating music from iTunes to Google Music
- Moving your sim from iPhone to Android
- Using hangouts app
- Moving your photos
The guide is pretty much written in laymen’s terms but it’s also quite comprehensive. You can take a look at the entire document here.
