IKEA has just expanded its product line beyond just amazing meatballs, furniture and drapery as they now have begun carrying select Android phones as well. In what seems like an extremely odd business move IKEA has started offering select handsets from Verizon and Sprint for free with a new two year contract from their website. It appears as though IKEA is hoping for something out of this as well as they plastered the space with information about their Android application in hopes that users will download it.
The move is interesting, but smart at the same time. Many people when shopping for new devices look at the price tag and they want to spend the least possible on a new phone even if they are signing to spend the next two years of their life with it. By bringing users free phones, and showcasing the ability of their application IKEA is in a good position here. Additionally those who may not be interested in the phone will now see more information about the IKEA app and potentially download that as well.
Some of the devices offered by the promotion are the Samsung Galaxy S 3 and 4 Mini, HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid Mini, Casio GzOne Commando 4G and a few others, so don’t expect any of the latest and greatest high end devices for free here. The selection is still pretty solid, and most of the devices are rather current, so if you are in the market for one of these devices this is your chance to grab one for free.
It will be interesting to see if this rather random move by IKEA ends up paying off for them, or if this is just something that they should have thought about a little more prior to rolling out. Either way hit the link below to check out the promotion for yourself, and let us know your thoughts as well!
