JumperCard

One of the major smartphone shortcomings, and a constant source of anxiety for a great many people, is the short lifespan of a single charge. Although this is such a problem, people rarely carry any form of backup power. Though there is no sort of evidence or data to back me on this, I suspect that two main factors play a role in the absence of these backup power sources: the cost and the physical size of the power source. Well, we just came across an Indegogo campaign that solves both of these problems.

Jumper Card

jumpercard3This is the Jumper Card, or “Jumper Cables for Your Phone,” as the campaign calls it. The Jumper Card is, by far, the smallest external power supply I have come across.

That may be a little deceiving. The Jumper Card works primarily as a charger, and can pull power from any USB port. A major factor that separates the Jumper Card from similar devices, it includes the three most widely used connections: the Apple Lightning connection(iPhone 5 models), Apple 30-pin (Pre-iPhone 5 models), and the standard Micro-USB. That said, there is an on-board battery in the card that holds 480 milliamp hours, which can add about one hour of life to a phone.

JumperCard1On top of all that, the Jumper Card is only slightly larger than a standard credit card. Also, if they reach their funding goal of $10,000, the card will sell for $25, making it one of the cheapest such devices. It is almost a certainty that they will reach the goal, as the Jumper Card has already raised (as of writing) $8,242 in the 5 days the campaign has been live.
