Leading up to One Spark, which starts this Wednesday, we have been taking a look at many of the One Spark Creators. There are going to be an awful lot of really good projects on display. That said, Marbel is far and away the project I am most looking forward to seeing. Marbel has built a skateboard that they have dubbed, “World’s Lightest Electric Vehicle.” Awesome!
The idea for this skateboard came from one statistic: 65% of car trips in the US are 5 miles or less.1 In pursuit of a way to limit the impact of short car trips, the Marbel team has spent the past 18 months developing a badass electric skateboard. Here is how the company describes the projects:
We have created an electric skateboard that is the lightest electric vehicle in the world at just 9.9lbs, has a range of 10 miles, costs about a penny per charge, can fully charge the battery in about 90 minutes, and is accompanied by an iOS app that allows the rider to fully customize the control of the ride experience.2
This is one of the coolest things that I have seen in a long time – not just among One Spark Creators, but in tech overall. I have to admit that I am incredibly excited to try one of these in person. You can check out Marbel at the Sun Trust Building Venue.
