At last years One Spark, we had a chance to speak with the Nerdular Crew. They have built a really unique “Social Marketplace for geeks, fanboys, fangirlsl & creatives.”1 Here is how Kyle described the company last year:
So what is Nerdular? Well when we first heard about it, it was described as a marketplace for nerd stuff. You know, video game t-shirts, Doctor Who gear, nerdy memorabilia and crafts. We immediately thought,ThinkGeek. ThinkGeek is the powerhouse e-commerce site that sells a lot of that same stuff.2
As the company noted, however, last year they “had nothing but a concept, a name, a logo.”3 While they have still yet to launch, the company has grown tremendously since last years One Spark:
Since then, with massive additional research (going to major and regional comic-cons and talking with a wide range of geeks) and finding the right technology co-founder (Feature[23]), we changed the concept from a pure marketplace model to an innovative content and commerce model, where users can create/share original, multi-media content, buy/sell nerdy merchandise and connect/collaborate with others who share the same passions.4
When asked how Nerdular is different from what is out there now, the company gave an enlightening answer:
Very few marketplace sites really leverage original content to help build a better relationship between the buyer and seller. None are focusing on the pop culture nerd niche. Essentially, we’re taking the experience of comic conventions and making it accessible to all, any hour of the day. Nerdular is the convergence of nerd community, industry and marketplace…like a never-ending comic-con.5
We are definitely looking forward to seeing how far they have come!
