NeverWander

neverTampa Bay’s NeverWander has begun what looks to be an interesting and useful project. The company is in the process of building both hardware and software to solve the problem of keeping track of young children in a crowded place – amusement park, mall, and the like. While there are an awful lot of products on the market that help track down lost children, NeverWander looks to eliminate the problem altogether:

NeverWander is a revolutionary way to assist you in knowing where your children are at all times while in places with lots of people! But more than anything we have designed it so that you will be alerted when your child is leaving the “Safe Zone.” We believe the answer lies in preventing loss, not just solving the problem once it has happened.1

There are some really alarming statistics on missing children, that serve as a good illustration of the problem:

  • Every 40 seconds a child goes missing in the U.S. This means 2,100 kids on a daily basis.
  • 500,000 cases of missing children are not reported
  • Approximately 27% of children visiting theme parks with their families, get lost.2

While it is clear that NeverWander is a needed sort of product, as they are still in the very early stages, some of the details are a bit vague. How are you alerted when the child leaves the safe zone? How big is the safe zone? How much will the device cost? Hopefully, we will be able to get some of the details when we check out the company’s booth.
