There are tons of companies building technology for and innovating in the restaurant industry.Tons. A quick search of the food and hospitality industry turns up just under 1000 companies on CrunchBase.¹ While I did not search through each and every one of these, my experience has been that the majority of these companies are more concerned with the consumer, building ordering apps or aggregating menus. There is very little innovation in the restaurant kitchen. However, there is a One Spark Creator – OrderUpp – looking to do just that.

OrderUpp is a Jacksonville, FL based company that has built a remarkable mobile platform that makes it incredibly easy to manage orders in the kitchen. Rather than butcher what it is they do, here is how the team describes their platform:

We are the only ones of the cloud-based systems that focuses on the kitchen side of the restaurant ordering process. We are also completely mobile. Unlike other systems, our process can be implemented in a few minutes with just two mobile devices. Additionally, we can scale up very quickly and inexpensively to bring additional employees and customers online. Lastly, our system doesn’t utilize any propriety hardware; customers and staff can use any existing devices they already own.²
