While we were at The 2014 Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC) we had a chance to visit the Picaboo booth. They really opened up our eyes to a problem that you don’t really think about too often: yearbooks. Maybe not a problem, but standard high-school yearbooks are riddled with inefficiencies and could be much, much better and less expensive. That is exactly what Picaboo does.
Looking back, the $75 for my high-school yearbook seems like a rip-off. I was pictured 2, maybe 3 times. The bulk of it seems to be filler, or at least from my perspective. Why should that be? With all the advances in technology, printing, and publishing there has to be a better way. Picaboo has just that.
With Picaboo, the school still designs and edits the standard yearbook, however students are given the opportunity to edit and design their own personalized section. For each yearbook, the individual student is given the opportunity to design their own back cover, as well as four pages 100% free, additional pages cost a per-page fee of 23¢. There are also many benefits on the school side of the equation. Picaboo has no minimum order, no deadlines, free shipping, and an incredible 3 week turn around time on all yearbooks. On top of all that, students are allowed to download the eYearbook completely free of charge.
We had a chance to speak with the Picaboo representative at their booth at FETC where we learned much more about their programs:
