Most presents given for the holidays end up bringing great cheer to the recipient. But that’s not always the case, as we reported yesterday a California woman received a shrink wrapped box filled with erasers and custom cut index cards, instead of the silver iPod classic that was supposed to be in the box. Today we’ve got the story of a Northern Virginia boy who got a brand new Nintendo DS for Christmas.
The boy’s father had purchased the DS on December 23rd from a local Walmart. The DS was supposed to be brand new and was still in shrink wrap.
WJLA 7 in Washington DC reports that everything seemed to be going well at the Mayhew home. The 8 year old opened up the DS and it was uneventful. That was until he and his friends decided to take pictures of themselves with the DS, a pretty normal thing for 8 year olds to do with a Nintendo DS.
However, when the kids went to look back at the pictures of themselves they found the pictures they had just taken a long with a bunch of pornographic images left from someone else.
Mayhew insists he bought the portable gaming device brand new, and Walmart doesn’t sell refurbished devices like other retailers. However it’s obvious that this Nintendo DS was returned and then restocked, or even worse, returned, re-wrapped and then sold as new.
The previous Christmas a Colorado man had purchased a Nintendo DS for his 5 year old son that was also filled with porn. The DS in that case was purchased from Gamestop, who specializes in selling reused devices, often times traded in so gamers can get more games and systems. In the Colorado case the customer knew they were getting a used DS.
There’s no word on how Walmart remedied the situation for the Mayhew family.
