As wearable devices like the Pebble Watch, Galaxy Gear, FitBit, and Google Glass (Above) are exploding in popularity, it makes a lot of sense that VentureBeat is predicting the continued proliferation of these wearables in 2014.1 It is hard to argue with this prediction, just check out the chart to the left. The sales of these deceives are set to explode.
Adding to the scope of the wearable market, a unique smart ring concept just reached its funding goal on Indiegogo.
Smarty Ring
The Smarty Ring started its Indiegogo campaign looking for a modest $40,000, but as of writing the campaign has a whopping $228,461 in pledges.2 The Smarty Ring has a bunch of different features, including:
- Incoming & outgoing call notifications.
- Alerts for Text and E-Mail messages
- Real time updates from Facebook,Twitter,Hangout & Skype
The ring acts a clock:
- Check two Time zones
- Countdown Timer
- Stop watch
- Alarm
The Smarty Ring also works as a remote control, allowing you to:
- Accept or reject incoming calls
- Make outgoing calls to preset numbers
- Trigger camera
- Control music
- Change the ring’s profile
The Smarty Ring team has also built both an iOS and Android app, allowing for even more customization of the device. What’s even more, the rings come with a wireless charger. It will be interesting to watch the market for the Smarty Ring develop further, but with more than $200k in pledges they have certainly proved that there is a market.
