With the launch of the Playstation 4 many assumed that Sony would start ending support of previous generation titles. However, to Sony’s credit they continued supporting Playstation 2 titles for nearly 7 years after the PS3 was released.
Back in November Sony announced that they planned on supporting PS3 titles for many years to come, and this week’s news shouldn’t detract from that plan.
DigitalSpy reported earlier this week that Sony will end online support for several PS3 titles in 2014. Sony will shut down online servers for multiple first party titles including three Resistance titles and their megahit racing franchise, Gran Turismo 5.
Sony will stop online support of MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces and SOCOM: Confrontation will first be disabled on January 28, 2014.
They will disable online features for Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2 and Resistance 3 on March 28th.
Finally on May 20th they will end online support of Grand Turismo 5. The follow up in the series, Gran Turismo 6 was launched on December 6th exclusively to PS3 so we can expect that title to receive continued support for a long while.
