Before I go on I just want to say I do not go to the church of Sony, nor do I read from the book of Microsoft – I am console agnostic and I believe that both have their merits and I subscribe to the ‘why not both?’ way of thinking especially now in this age of gaming. Microsoft’s Xbox One has been enjoying a recent spike in sales due to a game called Titanfall, maybe you’ve heard of it by now. The Xbox One has enjoyed a massive 96 percent sales spike in the UK due to the release of the uber first person shooter but something unexpected happened at that same time… Sony experienced a 72 percent sales spike on their PlayStation 4.
Now the news from Sony Computer Entertainment is that their own console exclusive game has upped the ante – inFamous: Second Son has reached one million pre-orders making it the first next-gen game to reach a million prior to its actual release. Currently the numbers break down as the following:
Infamous : Second Son amasses 1 million pre-orders globally. Digital numbers revealed
We all expected Infamous : Second Son to be massive in terms of sales, but never did we expect the game to have the highest amount of pre-orders for any next-gen game. Courtesy of our close amigo at SCE, as of March 18,2014, the game has 1 million pre-orders globally. This is the first time pre-orders for any next-gen game has reached a million before release. Below is the breakdown for the pre-orders of the game :
North America : 417,000
PAL/Europe ~326,000 .
~100,000 pre-orders for the PS4-Infamous bundle.
~190,000 digital pre-orders
On top of that Sony is prepping to ship around 400,000 PlayStation 4 consoles globally on the launch weekend of inFamous.
The next-gen console wars are definitely going now. Sony and Microsoft are both flexing their muscles but I’m sure the best is still yet to come from both sides and things are only going to get even more amazing, it is a great time to be a gamer no matter which side you are on.
