On Tuesday, June 3, Sony launched a new smartphone, the Xperia T3. The Xperia T3 was, “created exclusively for those looking to stand out from the crowd.”1 Sony has already released its new high-end phones, the Xperia T3 comes in as an attractive mid-range offering from the Japanese company. Design, at least in the marketing materiel, is the main selling point of the T3.
Calum MacDougall, Sony’s Director of Xperia Marketing, noted the focus on design in a statement:
Xperia T3 has been crafted with attention to detail for those who know how to appreciate distinctive design in their everyday life. The T3 is packed with the latest beautiful technology from Sony – including leading digital imaging expertise and a vivid HD display – all within a stylish, stainless steel frame. The combination of this beautiful technology and the premium design ensures the T3 immediately stands apart from the competition.2
Among all the features, the display of the Xperia T3 really stands out. The 5.3 inch display incorporates Sony’s TRILUMINOS technology. This TRILUMINOS technology, “creates incredibly true, natural colour shades – just the way you want them. Hard-to-reproduce reds, aqua blues and emerald greens are displayed beautifully, making landscapes and seascapes appear more vivid. Faces look better too, with natural skin tones.”3 Further, the display incorporates the updated Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, “adding new real-time contrast optimisation to the sharpness enhancement, high-quality colour management and noise reduction.”4
Overall, the Xperia T3 looks like a solid, mid-range KitKat device. Sony has yet to release a price, but the device is set to hit shelves in July.
