On Thursday March 20th, AT&T and U.S. Cellular announced that they would begin taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5 with the device hitting store shelves on April 11th.1 On Friday the 21st, Sprint followed suit, announcing that they too be stocking the S5 on April 11th.2 All three carriers will be selling the device for $199, all with varying degrees of customer incentives and rewards.
AT&T is offering customers, “$50 off a Samsung Gear 2 or Gear 2 Neo when you purchase a Samsung Galaxy S 5.”3 U.S. Cellular is “offering a $50 Google Play promotional code for free to anyone who pre-orders the device online.”4 Sprint, on the other hand, is taking a completely different approach to incentivising the S5. In an effort to push people towards the strange Framily Plan, Sprint is offering up free tablets:
For a limited time only, customers who purchase Galaxy S 5 on a Sprint Framily Plan with Easy Pay will also get Samsung Galaxy Tab® 3 7.0 free with activation on a data plan with a two-year service agreement.5
Sprint continues to dwindle, exemplified by offering what is essentially Samsung’s worst tablet as an incentive.6
T-Mobile has gotten into the mix as well. Though not available for pre-order just yet, T-Mobile has set up a landing page that notes that pre-orders for the S5 will begin on March 24, 2014.7 Also, and perhaps an even more dismal sign that Sprint’s offer, T-Mobile is only offering a discount on the Galaxy Tab 3 7″:
Pre-order by March 31, 2014 and get $120 off the Samsung Galaxy Tab® 3 while supplies last when you purchase the Galaxy S 5. (retail/online).8
Verizon has yet to make any sort of announcement concerning the Samsung Galaxy S5.
