At this years One Spark, there are a lot of creators that we are really interested in checking out. Surfr is definitely one of them. In a nutshell, Surfr is Yelp for surfers. Aside from checking in, however, there are tons of additional features, including:
Surfr is a surf report, surf journal and social good platform. It allows you to chronicle your surfing adventures by logging surf sessions and checking spots.
Surfr makes it easy to benchmark surf reports and allows you to tap into your trusted friend network by crowdsourcing their activity across the globe.Surf reports aren’t always accurate and text messages don’t always get sent which means your often left wondering if the waves are going off. Surfr solves that problem by introducing the trusted human element of reporting.1
There is also an added element to what Surfr does. In addition to mapping and crowdsourcing surfing spots, the Surfr team added a Social Good platform within the app. According to the Surfr One Spark Profile:
Surfers can now add underserved communities to the DISCOVER map by simply dropping a pin and tagging the location with a social good category like Clean Water or Medical Supplies. Likewise, surfers can add travel resources to the map like: hostels, cafes, bars, and other surf spots that aren’t currently demarcated.2
This is a cool, easy to use, easy to understand application that is much needed. We are looking forward to learning more about the app during One Spark. Here is a good overview video of Surfr:
