For those not in the know, PED is the abbreviation for “Personal Electronic Devices” at least in airline lingo. PED’s have been in the spotlight since Thursday when the FAA finally eased up on regulations and now allow passengers to use Personal Electronic Devices gate to gate. Now as we reported on Thursday the implementation of these new regulations is up to the individual airlines. As we learned on Friday, some airlines have wasted no time.

As we speculated when we first heard the news, the American carriers that have the highest reputation amongst business travelers are aggressively seeking FAA approval for their individual fleets. Mashable gladly reported that Delta and JetBlue have gone through the approval process so YES if you’re getting on a Delta or JetBlue flight as soon as yesterday you can finish that iPad game you started waiting for your flight, onboard.

Delta celebrated this amazing news for business travelers with this tweet that they proudly tweeted on Friday the minute they got approval.

Airlines, Tech, PED, FAA

JetBlue celebrated the news by making this video on their first flight with approved gate to gate PED use from New York city’s JFK to Buffalo.

The rest of the airlines will aggressively begin getting approval for PED’s in flight gate to gate over the next several weeks. I took a PED approved flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta on Delta this weekend and was told by one of the flight’s officers that Delta and other airlines had been working on getting compliant in anticipation of these changes which were to happen “any day now” which explains why Delta and JetBlue were ready to go the very next morning.

Are you flying? Are you happy about these new rules, let us know in the comments below.
