Las Vegas, High Roller WheelThe most amazing ferris wheel opened in Las Vegas earlier this week. No it’s not at the top of a really tall hotel, freaking people out, looking for a pure adrenaline rush. Rather, the High Roller is the world’s tallest observation wheel.

The wheel opened up for business on Monday afternoon as part of the Linq project, a new multi faceted entertainment complex in the heart of Las Vegas owned by Ceaser’s Entertainment. Linq features over 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and entertainment venues. The complex started a progressive rolling opening beginning in December. Many of the businesses opened last month.

The High Roller features 28 enclosed cabins that can hold up to 40 people each. There are benches for sitting but so far most riders have stood up throughout the entire 30 minute ride to take in the sites of Las Vegas. Each cabin is climate controlled and also feature television displays that show riders how high they are. It also alerts riders when they are at the highest point in the ride.

There are other observation wheels across the world like the London Eye and the Singapore Flyer, however the High Roller is taller. Over the years these ferris wheel style observation wheels have replaced horizontally spinning observation towers, typically found as restaurants at the top of hotels. Those horizontal spinning observation wheels were popular in the late 60’s through the early 80’s. Many of them no longer spin.

As for the High Roller though, it provides an amazing experience according to several people that spoke to the Las Vegas Review Journal. Tickets for the High Roller are $24.95 per person for a daytime ride and $34.95 for a night time ride. During the night time ride, riders can experience all the lights, lasers and magic of the illuminated Las Vegas strip.
