Amazon PrimeIf you’ve been cowering at the thought of paying an extra $20 per year for Amazon Prime services and you refuse to give Amazon another $20 of your money than you may be in luck.

As anticipated, Amazon announced earlier this week that Prime memberships would cost an additional $20 per year effective April 18th. This means that as current Amazon Prime customers see their renewal come up (after April 18th) they will automatically renew at the new $99 rate.

Well thanks to the wonderful people at LifeHacker a hack has been discovered that should allow you to get your next year of Amazon Prime at the same $79 rate. After that though you’re on your own.

It’s actually a very simple hack and once you glance it over you’ll agree it makes perfect sense, however no one can be responsible if it doesn’t work.

1. Disable auto renew on your Amazon Prime account through the website or by calling Amazon’s customer service. It appears that since Lifehacker originally reported this hack the ability to disable auto renew in your online account dashboard has itself been disabled.

2. Purchase a gift subscription for Amazon Prime for $79

3. Set the gift subscription to deliver to your email address the day after your auto-renew was slated to occur.

If you follow the steps correctly than in theory, when your Amazon Prime anniversary comes you’ll get the gift subscription the next day hence saving you $20. If Amazon finds a way to circumvent it though, you could be out $79.
