Tablift-2I’ve tested out several tablet lap desks, stands and contraptions designed to hold up a tablet and make it viewable and workable at the same time. I’ve specifically been looking for the perfect solution so that I can actually work on my iPad while relaxing on the couch.

When I tried more traditional lap desks I found that most of the surfaces were too smooth. The iPad would move around the lapdesk to the point where I needed to hold it in place and type with one hand. Other contraptions that I’ve tried had similar problems, perfect for watching movies and consuming content, but not for producing it.

I’ve been looking for a somewhat rugged solution that will hold the iPad in place without compromising the comfort of the couch, or even sitting upright in a hotel bed after a long conference.

It looks like the answer may be Tablift.

The Tablift tablet holder seems to accommodate any sized tablet. It also appears that it will hold the tablet securely, but best of all it appears that the legs of the Tablift will be stable enough that I’m not chasing the tablet or the tablet stand around the couch.

The video below hits all of my key pain points with other tablet stands. The announcer says that the Tablift holds virtually any tablet in place “on uneven or cushioned surfaces, without having to hold it or balance it on your body.”.

The Tablift started out on Kickstarter raising $82,300 of their $78,000 goal in their campaign that ended in the summer of 2012.

We’ll see the Tablift in person at the International CES January 7-10th in Las Vegas. If it lives up to just half of what they say, I may have just found the tablet stand of my dreams.
