oppoN1-Cyanogen-bFor those of you living under the proverbial rock, Cyanogen is a “mod” or alternative OS for Android users that gives users access to some of the best features. People (and now there’s millions of them) who wanted to use Cyanogen Mod instead of their stock Android system or their bloated Android system via their carrier, traditionally has to “root” their Android device, thus voiding the warranty.

That’s why, earlier this year after it was announced Cyanogen had raised $7 million dollars  they put the Cyanogen launcher in the Google Play store and then had it removed for breaking terms of service.

While we’ve always waned Steve Kondik, the founder of Cyanogen, and his team, to be able to work full time, we had an inkling that to do that, Cyanogen had to do something big. They had to do something that every loyal Cyanogen user has been hoping for since Cyanogen was released over five years ago. That something was to come pre-installed on a phone.

Having Cyanogen Mod pre-installed meant that even the most beginner of Android users, that wanted to use Cyanogen, could. Being pre-installed meant that you didn’t have to root the device to get the mindblowing feature rich Cyanogen.

Now, that dream has become a reality with the Oppo N1 CyanogenMod edition.

Android Central reported on Tuesday that the Oppo N1, the first device to come packaged with CyanogenMod out of the box, was available. The Oppo N1 with CyanogenMod also has access to all of the Google Apps, which was previously a sore point with the Cyanogen team. Since they were “hacking” Android (but in a good way), for a while, Cyanogen Mod didn’t include access to popular Google apps like ohhhh Gmail, Maps and Drive.

The Oppo N1 joins the ranks of the bigger Android phones with it’s 5.9″ screen, and 16 gigabytes of storage. The phone comes unlocked but unfortunately without LTE, a price that many CyanogenMod users and loyalists will most likely choose to suffer through. The Oppo N1 will come with Android 4.2 and Cyanogen 10.2 right out of the box.

All of this Android goodness will set you back $599 which isn’t too bad considering its an unlocked phone with Cyanogen support.
