Travel giant Expedia announced a partnership last week with HomeAway, the fast growing internet platform that connects people with vacation rental properties across the world. This new partnership will put HomeAway’s over 570,000 properties into the Expedia search results across multiple Expedia brands.
In addition to the top ranked Expedia.com site, the company also owns travel mainstays Hotels.com and Hotwire.com. Egencia, Venere, Classic Vacations and eLong are also part of the vast Expedia portfolio. Through the new relationship with HomeAway Expedia users will also get access to the listings available through bedandbreakfast.com, which Expedia also owns.
“In exploring the addition of standalone vacation rental homes to Expedia.com in the U.S., it made the most sense to do so in partnership with HomeAway, the world’s leading vacation rental provider. We think it will be a win-win-win, for Expedia, HomeAway, and – most importantly – consumers.” The company said in a statement.
Vacation rentals are becoming increasingly popular. HomeAway stands apart from traditional peer-to-peer sites like AirBnB because the properties listed on their site are specifically intended and used as vacation homes.
“This is a significant milestone for the vacation rental industry and for realizing HomeAway’s mission to make every vacation rental in the world available to every traveler in the world,” said HomeAway CEO Brian Sharples. “As one of the most visited online travel agencies, each month Expedia.com will give millions of travelers the opportunity to discover the benefits of booking a vacation rental, and we look forward to also helping our customers increase the visibility of their properties.”
“As a leading provider of full-service travel bookings, Expedia.com is constantly looking for opportunities to improve the breadth and depth of the products we offer,” said John Morrey, Vice President and General Manager of Expedia.com. “In exploring the addition of standalone vacation rental homes to Expedia.com in the U.S., it made the most sense to do so in partnership with HomeAway, the world’s leading vacation rental provider.
