I am a portable power monster. Anyone who has seen me at a technology event like CES or SXSW knows that I’m the goto guy for a phone charge. When I’m on the road with a long event I’m never short 100,000mah of charging power for my phones and iPad. I could be stranded in the desert for a week and still have phone and iPad battery life. My normal set up is a couple of Mophie Juice Packs an a few iSound chargers and enough Powerbag batteries to make your head spin. I was once stranded in Berlin for an IFA conference without external power and dead in the water by lunch time.
Now after people met me or hear about my obsession with keeping electronics charged the next words out of their mouths are typically “can you charge your laptop”. The answer, until now, has been “NO”.
LifeHacker reported on the newest external power source from Hyper the HyperJuice 1.5 external battery line. These new external batteries come in four different configurations, 60wh, 100wh, 222wh, and 100wh
The HyperJuice 1.5 features two USB ports for charging your smartphone, tablet and other USB electronics as well as the port for charging your MacBook. Now Apple has some requirements on vendors which include the fact that no one actually has access to create their proprietary Magsafe adapters. However there is a do it yourself conversion kit that Hyper can send you or you can elect to pay them $50 and they’ll do the modification for you. The modified adapter allows you to use the HyperJuice 1.5 to charge your Macbook or use it with their car adapter.
Because it’s an external battery the new HyperJuice 1.5’s can be used with any MacBook computer including the newest Retina Display models.
While USB external charging packs have really come down in price, the Hyper Juice 1.5 will set you back a bit. The base model (60wh) and the modification kit will run you about $200 the much larger battery pack will cost around $550. It all really depends on how much you want or need the ability to charge your computer anywhere.
You can pick up the HyperJuice 1.5 and the modification kit here at the Hyper Shop.
