We love a good crowdfunding campaign. However, it seems like the great majority of these campaigns that we cover are not really in any way practical for everyday life. Most are novelties. There have been a ton of cool an interesting ones, but they seem to be more extravagant than anything. There was the mission to send a lander to the moon, an electric skateboard, score-tracking foam swords, the dog collar that tells you what your pet is doing. Cool, yeah. But how useful are they really? That said, we just came across what looks like the most useful device/tool that we have seen in some time: The KLAX:

KLAX

The KLAX is “a multi-tool built into the head of an ax.  It allows you to attach the ax head to a handle quickly in the field. It uses the nested clamping system shown here. The clamps rotate out from the handle for use.”1 In addition to the ax, the KLAX has a ton of tools built right in. There are several models of the KLAX, but here we will look at the KLAX Lumberjack – the mid-range ax.

Lumberjack

The Lumberjack features

  • Stainless Steel Ax Blade
  • Hammer Head
  • Hex Wrench Set
  • 1/4” Bit Drive Socket
  • Bottle Opener
  • Lanyard Hole
  • Caribiner
  • Ruler
  • KLAX Clamping System.

Pretty impressive. One of the best things about the KLAX is the price, it is a reasonably affordable tool. You can pre-order all four versions on Kickstarter right now: The Feller – lowest offering – is $115; The Woodsman is $135; The Lumberjack is $160; and the Cadillac version, the TI KLAX is $550.
