We’ve all seen the meme of the Little Tike’s Cozy Coupe getting chased down on the freeway by police. Of course it’s a photo shopped picture of the OJ Simpson chase many years ago on the 405, with Little Tike’s infamous plastic red car photoshopped in. But what would it be like if you really could take the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe on the road.
Well that’s what John Bitmead set out to uncover when he created a life sized Little Tikes Cozy Coupe.
Gizmodo reported that Bitmead spent over 1000 hours and nearly $7000 to build out the life sized replica of the Little Tikes car. Just like the original Little Tikes car, this one doesn’t have any windows, or windshield and features a large plastic yellow roof. To make it street legal, Bitmead has hung a rear view mirror in the passenger compartment.
But what’s even better than building a street legal life sized replica of such an iconic toy is the fact that Bitmead has made it functional as well. He can ride it on the street and it can go up to 70 mph, making it a perfect vehicle for light errands around the city.
The British engineer has designed the car to take petrol and installed a manual transmission. Don’t get this version of the Little Tikes car confused with mini-coopers and smart cars that have been converted to look like Little Tikes cars. Bitmead took great car in making it is authentic as possible, using as much plastic as he could in the design.
