doubledragonSony PlayStation enthusiasts have been celebrating last week’s news that Sony is opening up PlayStation Now, a new service that will stream games to the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, Bravia TV’s, smartphones and tablets. Many gamers are looking at this as a way to go back to the Sony ecosystem after many may have left Sony for Xbox 360 in the  previous generation.

PlayStation Network members live for the variety of games already on the PlayStation network and available for download on the PS3 and Vita. One of the biggest turn ons is retro gaming.

Well to help with that love of retro gaming, Monkey Paw Games just kicked off Retro Rush this week. During Retro Rush, Monkey Paw will release a new import PSOne Classic on Playstation Store for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PSP. We’re not talking about ill fated crappy retro games either. Monkey Paw started Retro Rush with a port of the video game classic Double Dragon, which they released on Tuesday.

The rest of the schedule is:

  • January 21st – Lucifer Ring
  • January 28th – The Firemen 2: Pete and Danny
  • February 4th – Hyper Crazy Climber
  • February 11th – Wolf Fang
  • February 18th – Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return

The Double Dragon port is based off the 1990’s movie version and the version of the game released in Japan.

“Kicking off the Retro Rush is Double Dragon. You might remember Billy and Jimmy from their side-scrolling days but we are importing the fighting game that is based on the Double Dragon movie from the 90’s. You might not have heard about this game because it was never released outside of Japan even though the movie was made in Hollywood.” Ryan Olsen, PR Manager for Monkey Paw Games said on the official PlayStation Blog.

Head to the Playstation store now to download Double Dragon.
