National real estate firm RedFin has always been on the cutting edge of technology. That continues to apply this week as they roll out their new Redfin 3D Walkthrough technology. his online feature for Redfin-listed homes provides a high-resolution, interactive view from every angle inside a home and is powered by groundbreaking 3D scanning technology from Matterport. It is now available for Redfin listings in Seattle, including this home, and will roll out to other markets in the coming months.
After touring this home using the Redfin 3D Walkthrough technology, we’ve seen first hand that it’s a far more immersive experience than competing products on the market today. It feels like a Google Street View for the home or like you’re touring the home in the latest FPS video game.
Using a computer with a good resolution display and high speed internet we were able to click anywhere within the home and we’re taken to that spot where we could then get a 3D look at what was around us. The graphics were sharp and precise, so precise we could read the titles of books on a shelf in an upstairs office.
Matterport, Redfin’s technology partner for their 3D Walkthrough, uses their own proprietary rendering software and special cameras that stitch the entire 3D picture together in high resolution so no detail goes unnoticed.
“When I first saw Matterport’s technology almost two years ago, it was a duct-taped prototype with a ton of potential. Today, it’s best in class. Matterport partnered closely with Redfin agents and our engineering team to deliver a cutting-edge experience that is unlike that of any other national real estate brokerage.” RedFin’s Sasha Aickin said in a blog post.
Redfin plans to make the technology available to anyone that lists their home with them. The technology makes it easier to narrow down what homes a potential buyer wants to look at in person and could really come in handy for remote buyers.
