Traditionally, only a manufacturers high end devices would get the latest greatest version of the Android operating system. This continues to grow a problem in the Android world called fragmentation. While Apple’s iOS 7 is now in 70% of iOS devices, the last two versions of Android account for only 40% of all Android devices.

Google addressed fragmentation with Android 4.4, Kit Kat. While they packed in great features and they lowered the minimum required RAM to 512mb. This makes it easier for manufacturers with middle of the road Android devices to upgrade.

GSMArena has reported by way of sammobile that Samsung is testing the viability of Android 4.4 Kit Kat, on several of their lower end Android phones.

According to the leaked document below, obtained by sammobile the Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Fresh, are all being evaluated for the upgrade.

But as GSMArena warns, it could still be a while before any of these phones show up on an upgrade road map.
