Spotify1Spotify unveiled a new user interface across just about all of it’s platforms. This is Spotify’s biggest redesign. Typically they’ve changed features here and there across different platforms, and made updates while adding platforms but this redesign is jus about across the board. The web, iPhone, Android and Mac all received the same redesign, reports TheVerge.com

Spotify is stepping out of the 90’s style jukebox interface which was made popular by Napster, RealNetworks and of course iTunes. The previous Spotify design was a list of tracks and artists with your playlists on the left. Now they’ve revamped everything and began highlighting artists, albums and music in an interface that’s more up to date.

“We’ve done bits and pieces along the way and launched on new platforms, but this is the first we’ve done of the whole service since the beginning.” Michelle Kadir, Spotify’s director of Product Development told TheVerge.

Spotify2If you’ve been using Spotify on your desktop computer you may be familiar with most of the redesign. They’ve been testing the components of the redesign first on the web but Wednesday rolled i out across mobile as well.

With this redesign they also brought a feature that users have been waiting for since 2012. The “collection” feature, now dubbed Your Music, is a place where users can click and “favorite” a song to go into their collection without having to assign it a playlist. It makes it quick and easy for someone to have access to a song that they like.

Spotify also did away with the stars feature which people were using in a similar way to the new “Your Music” feature. The star was supposed to be used for favorite songs but instead was being used for quick playlist adding.

The new Spotify design is up and rolling across the web, iPhone, Android and Mac.
