PS4shareAs expected, PS4 users are doing some heavy streaming over Twitch and Ustream. Both services allow users to stream their gameplay. Early reviewers, like ArsTechnica keyed in on the streaming capability on how the ability to stream would make a “killer app”. News released from Sony on Tuesday confirmed their suspicions.

Sony said on Tuesday that PS4 users have streamed 800,000 distinct sessions since their US launch on November 15th and the subsequent launch in 31 other countries on November 29th. That was good for over 20 million minutes of live streamed gaming reports ArsTechnica.

“PlayStation 4 is specifically designed so people can share their gaming experiences and interest in streaming live gameplay has surpassed our wildest expectations,” Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios said in a statement. “We’re very excited to see gamers embrace live streaming from their PS4 system and we look forward to seeing how PlayStation gamers advance social gaming in the coming years.”

Sony has made it extremely easy for gamers to stream their games by simply hitting the “share” button on the dual shock controller. The company reports that the share menu has been accessed over 10.9 million times.

The PS4 system’s social capabilities will expand in 2014 as the PS4 games portfolio expands with games like the highly anticipated inFAMOUS™: Second Son and MLB 2014: The Show from SCE WWS, as well as brand new franchises including Destiny™ from Activision, Watch_Dogs™ from Ubisoft Entertainment, and The Order 1886TM,and DriveClub™ from SCE WWS.  All of these titles showcase the power of the PS4 system with breathtaking graphics and breakthrough gameplay experiences.

The Xbox One was supposed to feature streaming through Twitch at launch, but just a few days before launch Microsoft reported that Twitch streaming would be delayed until 2014. In the meantime though, users can watch other people’s games using the Twitch.tv app, presumably they’ll be watching a bunch of PS4 users.
