We are a little more than a week away from E3 the largest video games industry conference in the US. While we are expecting a slew of great news in the software department across multiple platforms, the hardware news expected is minimal.
One of those big software news bits is expected to be the announcement of Super Smash Brothers Wii U with NFC action figured. Think your favorite Nintendo character brawl game, now with added Skylander figure like features.
Most of Nintendo’s pre E3 marketing has centered around the Smash Brothers game. Nintendo has announced a Super Smash Brothers tournament and have announced that gamers can catch a glimpse at Best Buy.
Nintendo has been mentioning NFC technology and the NFC equipped Wii U game pad quite a bit lately. Gamers have been waiting for the opportunity to try out the technology.
New reports suggest that Super Smash Brothers will be the first game Nintendo brings to market with NFC enabled figures.
Activision’s Skylanders was the first game to introduce NFC enabled toys to accompany the game, creating a collectible and tradable component to the game experience. Just as most hardcore Skylanders players had finished bulking up their collection of characters Activision released another installment with new figures. They are now on the third version of the game which required a change in base technology.
How sure are way that we’ll see the release of Super Smash Brothers with NFC figures? Well Steven Boles, Nintendo of France’s Managing Director all but confirmed it, telling French website Le Figaro, “E3 is also an opportunity to show the use of NFC technology in Nintendo consoles. The NFC will be used in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.”
