It seems that Microsoft may be working on an e-reader for the Xbox One or the Xbox 360. We’re not exactly sure how this would actually work, would you read a book on your 50″ tv in the living room? Maybe? Who knows.
Digital Spy reported on Monday that Microsoft is hiring staff to work on an interactive app for Windows. Back in 2012 Microsoft invested $300 million into the eBook division of Barnes and Noble. They were planning on merging the ebook resources of Barnes and Noble into the Microsoft ecosystem.
Now of course an e-reader app for Windows 8 tablets, smartphones and possibly even laptops makes sense, we’re just not sure about eBooks on an Xbox One or Xbox 360.
So where does this rumor come from?
Well first off we would be remiss if we thought that every Microsoft rumor had to do with Xbox gaming consoles, however in this particular case, Microsoft has the team behind Xbox Music and Xbox Video leading the app development on the eReader, sparking the rumors that it’s coming to Xbox.
Also, both Google Play and the iTunes store both carry ebooks, magazines and other reading material. We’re just still not too sure who would use that content on a living room tv.
Would you read books on your Xbox One or Xbox 360? Sound off in the comments.
