While everyone is talking about Marissa Mayer and the fact that she’s made $214 million dollars in just 15 months at Yahoo, what are they going to do about it? They’re going to rock out with Live Nation.
Yahoo announced at their “Digital Content New Front” on Monday in New York that they’ve entered into a new partnership with Live Nation that will continue to bolster their video platform. Mayer and the Yahoo team has been hard at work boosting their content offerings including hiring Katie Couric to headline their news and interviews video section.
In the deal announced with Live Nation, Yahoo will live stream a Live Nation concert every day for a year. Live Nation, has some of today’s biggest acts across all genres of music, making this an extremely lucrative deal for both companies. In addition to the live streaming, Yahoo plans on making at least 1200 of the best songs from these events, available for download.
Last year, Yahoo unveiled a new partnership with the WWE as well as six new shows at their New Front event. However many feel that they were quickly upstaged by Netflix and their original content offerings.
There is no word on whether this content will be totally free and ad supported or if they will some how tier up the offerings and offer a premium subscription plan. They also did not outline what acts would be part of the series and when it would start exactly.
