Nintendo-E3Nintendo has had a rough year and it all actually started in 2012. Nintendo decided that they would unveil their newest console system, the Wii U, in time for the 2012 holiday season a whole year before we saw the Xbox One and PS4 hit the street. The system was relatively innovative with it’s game pad and focus on the living room and family. They also brought out all their usual hits and a handful of other recognized titles.

However, the Wii U didn’t sell close to what the company had hoped for and once the Xbox One and Playstation 4 were actually introduced it almost meant lights out on the Wii U. They abruptly did a small pricing change with more discounting expected soon.

Nintendo didn’t back off though, instead they started talking about other verticals where they may be successful. While much of the gaming world has been screaming that they should license their key properties, much like Sega licensed Sonic and their main characters, Nintendo continues to shun that idea. The company actually started about health verticals and more interactives.

With E3 just weeks away, Nintendo has taken the wraps off of their E3 website. Right now the site talks about what they are doing with Nintendo Tree House. They are also pushing Super Smash brothers really hard. Nintendo is holding an invitational Super Smash Brothers tournament and encouraging people to play it before they can buy it at their neighborhood Best Buy.

But what you don’t see is any talk about a new system.

Except, Nintendo Everything was able to find a post with the original source code for the Nintendo E3 site. In the source code you can clearly see the words “new nintendo system” right before a mention of Super Smash Brothers.

Nintendo-SourcecodeIt appears that code has now been removed and it’s unclear as to whether that code ever made it to the live site, but it sure does make for some interesting speculation. Their E3 teaser site is very strongly worded saying “Game fans, this is the one you’ve been waiting for”.

That could possibly be a reference to the company announcing more game titles that appeal to older gamers. Or it could mean a new system. We’ll have to wait until June 10th to find out.
