On Friday, BLU began selling its newest flagship, the Life Pure XL. If you have never heard of BLU, the Miami, FL company designs and manufactures affordable mid-range unlocked Android handsets. While the company has been known mostly for the low cost of their devices, that may soon be changing. The Life Pure XL has some some pretty remarkable specs. So remarkable that the company’s CEO, Samuel Ohev-Zion, is making some incredibly bold comments (emphasis added):

The BLU LIFE PURE XL continues our focus on stunning design with the latest CNC design technology available today to create a stunning curved unibody casing. Built inside the stunning design is arguably the best smartphone device available on the planet today, with extremely advanced hardware to match its design.1

Bold indeed. Though it may not be the “the best smartphone device available on the plant,” the Life Pure XL looks to be a quality, flagship phone. The Life Pure XL is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-Core 2.2GHz Krait-400 with Adreno 330 GPU. The display is a 5.5 inch Full HD 1080 x 1920, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone comes in two different versions, the L260 with 32GB internal memory, or the L259 with 3GB RAM or 16GB + 2GB RAM. As far as connectivity, the device is compatable with NFC, WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, GPS, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi Hotspot, micro-USB, and oddly enough FM Radio. The camera is one of the main selling points of the Life Pure XL:

The BLU Life Pure XL includes professional digital camera sensors to achieve the first smartphone camera to strike a perfect balance with 16.0 mega pixels of resolution, while maintaining picture quality with a pixel size of 1.34?, with an industry leading 1/2.3inch sensor size. In addition, the LIFE PURE XL is coupled with the first autofocus front facing camera, with 8.0 MP resolution plus 1.4 ? pixel size and advanced camera software features to create the world’s best camera experience on a smartphone device.2

life pure xlThough these are some pretty solid specs, the Life Pure XL does have two major faults that stand out. The most glaring of these is the fact that the device is not LTE compatible. Also, the device ships with Android 4.2, though BLU has stated that the device is upgradable to Android 4.4 Kitkat. The Life Pure XL is available today on Amazon for $399 for the 32GB+3GB. The $349 16GB + 2GB version will be available in June. Overall, the Life Pure XL looks like a quality, low-cost Android handset.
