If you’ve been thinking about a smart watch for yourself or someone on your holiday list, Pebble is a great idea. I’ve been personally using a Pebble smart watch for the last two weeks. As far as form and function are concerned, out of the smart watches available now, Pebble is definitely leading the pack.

Pebble features an e-ink display that’s easily visible from a variety of angles and in the sun. The watch syncs to your Android smartphone or iPhone via Bluetooth. This allows notifications that normally clog the arteries of your notification panel to show up on your wrist. Both Android and iPhone allow you to customize what notifications you receive.

One trip to getpebble.com will reveal thousands of watch faces, for those who love a little variety. Downloading the Pebble app (which you must do) will allow you to sync and install apps and watch faces wirelessly. There are also a variety of sites on the web that allow you to create your own watch faces, even digitizing pictures.

I have a more complete review coming, but so far the Pebble experience has been positive, except when I initially purchased it and it went into an endless update loop. Pebble’s customer service, and their evangelist never responded to my endless queries for help, however I found the instructions to fix it on a user forum.

I’m using my Pebble with my iPhone 5S daily however I have tested it on an HTC One and a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Android actually has more apps available for Pebble. iPhone has a variety of apps including fitness trackers, a golf app and several smart watch feature apps.

No matter where you decide to pick up a Pebble smart watch, it will set you back $149. Now you can easily pick one up without taking an extra shopping trip. Amazon is now carrying the Pebble and it’s a Prime eligible item so you can get free two day shipping. Heck, if there’s not an Amazon wharehouse in your state you don’t even have to pay taxes.
