uFaker_logoAccidentally buying a counterfeit product sucks. Now most people who live by the old adage that “if it seems to good to be true, it probably is” then you may not have accidentally purchased a counterfeit iPad or pair of True Religion jeans. Or maybe you did, because counterfeiters are getting really good. With that in mind, the original manufacturers need your help.

Counterfeiting is really popular during the holidays. Everyone is looking for a great deal and with crazy days like Black Friday people are willing to think that super good deal is real. In other instances people are so desperate to get that one product that they’re blinded by circumstance and pick up a counterfeit product. Hint, they don’t typically sell Rolex watches at the flea market.

Well the product counterfeiting epidemic got  intellectual property attorney Jason Drangel thinking on how he could help, outside of the courtroom, that’s why he came up with the mobile app uFaker. According to Dallas’ Fox 4 it’s the app that turns consumers into crime fighters.

ufaker-bigOnce you download the app, and you spot a counterfeit product you just take a picture and upload it to uFaker. From there all the work is done in the background. The information consumers provide is turned over to the manufacturers who can start their own independent investigations. In the meantime uFaker rewards the person who reports the counterfeit with special exclusive deals.

“There’s gonna be a lot of opportunities discounts for brand owner purchases from their own websites…things you’re typically not going to be able to get,” Drangel told Fox 4.

The great thing about uFaker is the consumer can report the counterfeit product without anyone knowing. People take pictures of products every day so the seller of the counterfeit goods isn’t going to suspect an innocent picture is being taken to report them. The reporter doesn’t have to wait for their reward it’s instantaneous. The photo is geocoded to help the brand owner with the investigation.
