CreativeCreative, the company behind Sound Blaster sound cards, just announced a new portable speaker. The announcement makes some bold claims, but based on the specs of the new speaker, these claims seem to be about right.

Speaker

Above is the Creative Sound Blaster Roar. Here is what the company said of the new speaker:

Creative Technology Ltd today announced the Sound Blaster® Roar, a new concept, 5-driver portable wireless speaker. Designed to rival existing home stereo systems, it is a heavyweight contender in the wireless speaker market that delivers amazingly powerful, precision-tuned, high fidelity sound from a compact and portable booklet size.1

Bold indeed.

Sound Blaster RoarAt the core of these claims is the fact that the Sound Blaster Roar utilizes a two amplifier design, whereas most portable speakers use only one.

Creative laid out the benefits of the two amplifier approach:

Most portable speakers utilize a single amplifier to reproduce the entire audio spectrum. With a single amplifier design, most of the demand goes into producing the lows and mids, which thus compromises the delivery of the highs. On the other hand, the Sound Blaster Roar utilizes two amplifiers – one dedicated to driving lows and mids, and another which is solely dedicated for delivering the high frequencies. This allows the speaker to produce uncompromisingly clear, high definition, well balanced music.2

5 speakersAll-in-all, the device has 5 separate speakers: two for high frequencies, two for bass, and one for mids and bass (right). What’s more, the Sound Blaster Roar has a wide variety of playback options: the standard Bluetooth 4.0 connection; NFC connection; a USB connection; and an Aux-in connection.

Further, as the speaker has a massive battery that can act as an extarnal power source: “With its high-capacity built-in 6000mAh Li-ion battery, Sound Blaster Roar can be used to charge your smartphone.”3

Coming in at $299 the Sound Blaster Roar is on the higher-end of the portable Bluetooth speaker spectrum. That said, it seems to be one of, if not the, most powerful such speakers on the market.
