Before there was Fitbit, Runkeeper, and the Nike Fuel Band there was Fitbug. In fact they’ve been helping people track their fitness goals over the last 8 years.
At last year’s CES the company introduced the new Fitbug Orb. The orb is one of the smallest accelerometer/activity trackers available today. Unlike other similar devices, the Orb has three different modes, one which stores 14 days worth of data for you so you don’t even need to bring a smartphone with you.
When used in tandem with your smartphone the Fitbug Orb takes your data and shares it directly with the Fitbug app via Bluetooth v4. From there your data is shared with the Fitbug cloud and that’s when the real work begins.
Fitbug is more than just a device. They’re in an entire health and wellness community and platform. Fitbug leverages coaches, health and fitness advisors which help turn your data and your goals into real life achievable patterns.
At the 2014 International CES, the London based company will unveil new 12 week programs that are tailored to the user based on their personal workout, fitness, health and wellness goals. These new “workouts” are called Kik Plans and will be based around real life events. For instance the program they will be showing off is the 12 week post pregnancy program created by Melinda Nicci of Baby2Body fame.
Obviously the fitness and wellness goals of a woman post pregnancy will differ from those of a man or woman looking to shed some post holiday pounds. Or a man, woman or even teenager looking for a good health and fitness maintenance plans.
Although 2014 is going to be huge for wearable technology, Fitbug has been a force in the industry since 2005. The company has clearly moved beyond the device realm and into a complete health and fitness advisor.
